Edeh demands more home-based players in Super Falcons

The president of Ratels Sports Development Foundation (RSDF) and proprietor of Naija Ratels football club, Barrister Paul Edeh, has called for inclusion of more home-based players in the senior women’s national team, the Super Falcons.

The passionate call by one of the leading promoters of female football in Nigeria is coming on the heels of the recent disappointing performance of the Super Falcons at the just concluded Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) in Morocco.

In his reaction, Edeh opined that the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) is filled to the brim with quality players who can add value to the Super Falcons.

He, however, regretted that oftentimes, such immensely talented girls are undermined and neglected as administrators and managers of the national team continue to over-depend on foreign based players.

“Nigeria is never in want of quality players but most times we don’t pay enough attention to players in the domestic league. My experience with Naija Ratels has exposed me to the talents that abound in the local league.

“I am not against the use of foreign players in the Super Falcons but I believe a blend of foreign and local players will make the team more formidable.

“NWFL players are hungry for fame. Therefore, they will never toy with any opportunity that would come their way. Nigerian football administrators must learn to give the home girls opportunities to fight for shirts in the national team,” said Edeh.
