The Ambassador of Ecuador to Nigeria, Mr Leopoldo Verdesoto, has said his country was ready to strengthen bilateral relations with Nigeria and offer assistance in economic diversification through investment in agriculture.
Rovayo said at a media parley in Abuja yesterday that the collaboration would engender more robust economies for both countries.
He said it was important for Nigeria and Ecuador to devise other sources of helping both economies, given the steady decline in crude oil price in the international market.
“Now, we are negotiating memorandum of understanding in the political matter, we are also talking on commercial, and cultural issues, as well as agriculture. So I think that we have to strengthen our ties, our cooperation should not be only in the oil because we have to diversify our economies,” he said.
“At the moment we have a very low price of petroleum, one of the issues that the private sector and the government can do is to diversify our economy, we have to think of agriculture and other areas,” he said.
He also said his country was ready to give a technical support through research on development of agricultural seeds.
The envoy, who said Ecuadorian embassy in Nigeria had begun to identify agricultural products that could sell in Nigerian markets, said the country was ready to invest in food processing.
