The Institute of Nigerian Economists (INEN) has constituted a panel to propel Nigeria’s economic and social development.
The panel, which is made up of eminent Nigerians is drawn from the academia, legal profession, security agencies, manufacturers, students organisation, traditional institution as well as industrialists, would have the president of the institute as chairman and the registrar as secretary.
Speaking at 10th Annual Conference of the Institute at the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, on Wednesday, the President, Prof. Osisioma B.C. Nwolise, regretted that over the past 50 years, Nigeria’s political leaders have failed to galvanise the citizenry, including the intelligentsia to a fruitful national discourse.
He said that among the panel’s mandate is to network with key elite group for Nigeria’s national development, close the gaps and stimulate their effective synergy, strategise (road map) Nigeria’s national development and greatness, communicate and discuss the strategies with relevant governments and sectors for mainstreaming and identify on continuous basis factors that militate against Nigeria’s development.
Speaking further at the conference, Nwolise said the panel would also study and disseminate to relevant organs and sectors the best way to consistently enhance the peace, security, development, welfare and happiness of Nigerians.
At the event, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, was honoured for exemplary military leadership and command.
On why Buratai was honoured by the institute, Nwolise said that choice of Buratai was painstaking as more than 3,000 questionnaires were sent to the military establishment and the civil society, which returned the army chief as the best COAS the country has produced.
