As part of measures to boost the Federal Government’s directive on diversification of the economy, the Inter-States Agricultural Business Innovation (I-SABI), Project Contest, has initiated a project to boost Agriculture across the country.

This was contained in a statement by its National Project Coordinator, Mr. Ubi Ikpi, who stated that only a Private-Public partnership would be required to overcome the nation’s mono-economy which is largely dominated by oil.

He said that agriculture was the mainstay of Nigeria’s economy and about the only source of livelihood in the past, wondering how the sector deteriorate to the present level.

He said that urgent steps must be taken to put the nation back on the path of sustainable Agricultural development.

“The initiative is borne out of the desire to respond to the call by the present administration for Nigeria’s economic diversification agenda culminating into the Agricultural Promotion Policy, APP, of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD).

“This, therefore, informed this initiative called the Inter-States Agricultural Business Innovation (I-SABI) Project Contest, which is focused on supporting the government to establish Agriculture as a huge business in Nigeria,” Ikpi said.

According to him, Nigeria is blessed with vast agricultural potentials, which if adequately harnessed, will bring about exponential economic development reflecting on youth empowerment, wealth creation, increase revenue generation for government and most importantly food security.

He also said that the project seeks to stimulate the establishment of about 5000 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in Nigeria by 2024; create an alternatively acceptable reality TV show program to educate Nigerians on Modern Agricultural business innovation practices; as well as create a platform for national integration and reorientation.

He added that that 111 participants from the 36 states and the FCT will be admitted into the initiative after successful auditions.
