Fagbemi, who spoke in Akure yesterday said only the media can disseminate accurate information on the virus.
“I urge our people to be attentive to certified media such as radio and television stations and reading of newspapers so that they can be kept abreast of the details of the virus and not to be filled with rumour. And they should adhere to instructions from the Ministry of Health on where not to travel to and what to do,” she said.
The medical doctor advised that washing hands with soap all the time was a good precautionary measure against the virus, adding that children should be made to do same as well.
She added that any suspicion of the symptoms of the virus should be reported to the nearest hospital, because it is only in the medical laboratory that such claims could be verified.
The medical doctor cautioned against eating of bush meat which is a stable delicacy in the area, stressing that the virus could be contacted through infected animals.
“At this time, we should desist from consumption of bush meat which is common here.
Animals such forest antelope, bats and others are major carriers of the virus but if you have to eat them, ensure that they are properly cooked,” she said. (NAN)
