Governor Seriake Dickson, who disclosed this at the weekend in Yenagoa at the end of a meeting of an 18-member task force on Ebola, called on the people of the state to imbibe the culture of personal hygiene, noting that it would assist in the prevention and spread of the virus.
The governor, who assured the people that there was no cause for alarm, since the state has not recorded any case of the virus, stressed that in the event of any outbreak, the state government has the capacity to deal with it.
The governor said in view of the high fatality rate associated with the scourge, there was need to treat it as a national security issue. He commended President Goodluck Jonathan for the steps taken to check spread of the disease. In his remarks, chairman of the task force, Dr. Ayebatonye Owei, said measures taken to check the virus include mass sensitization of the people, public enlightenment campaigns in rural areas, among others.
