Easter: IPAC, Obi call for unity, patriotism

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in last year’s election, Mr Peter Obi and the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) have felicitated with Nigerians, especially Christians across the country on this year’s Easter celebration, which signifies the resurrection of Jesus Christ after his crucifixion.

This is contained in their separate statements on Sunday.

Obi on his X handle urged Christians to see the Easter victory of Jesus Christ over death as a huge motivation that a new Nigeria is possible and that it is also a strong indication that Nigerians will surmount the existing hardship.

“I join the global community of Christians, especially Christians in Nigeria, in celebrating Easter- the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. This great occasion brings to an end, the Christian Lenten season of fasting, prayers, and almsgiving, and ushers us into the season of glory and victory over death.

“For us in Nigeria, this very significant celebration holds vital promises of victory over our present myriads of challenges, if we do not despair. Our dear nation has continued to stagger under the heavy weight of high insecurity, soaring hunger and poverty, ballooning debts, galloping inflation, and mindless corruption that has pervaded every part of our national existence,” Obi said.

He urged all Christians, in the spirit of Easter, to continue to pray for God’s intervention for the country, so that God will bless Nigerians’ efforts with success, and make the new Nigeria even more possible, beyond human efforts.

On her part, Mrs Chinyere Oge-Kalu, the National Publicity Secretary, IPAC, urged Nigerians to use the joyous occasion of the victory of life over death to rededicate their lives to God and imbibe Christ’s virtues of love, compassion, tolerance and sacrifice.

“Council enjoins citizens to pray for the nation and its leaders as they pilot the affairs of the country in this difficult time. Partisan politics should give way to patriotism and nation building to steer our wobbling economy to the path of recovery and sustainable growth, which will curb insecurity in the country,” Oge-Kalu said.

She also said that IPAC is committed to the collective task of consolidating and advancing the nation’s democracy, ensuring an environment conducive for successful elections, political stability, enduring democracy and overall well-being of Nigerians.
