The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, on Thursday, ordered high-level security and protection measures in public spaces across the country.

The IGP assured Nigerians of the police force’s dedication to ensuring safety and security during the upcoming Easter celebrations.

Egbetokun instructed all Commissioners of Police (CPs) and their supervising Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) to deploy police personnel and operational assets to areas with potential security threats within their respective areas of responsibility (AoRs).

In a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Nigeria Police Force emphasized professional conduct among deployed officers, urging courteousness to law-abiding citizens while maintaining firmness against criminal elements exploiting the festive period.

Also, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ekiti State has deployed 1,000 officers, 100 tactical female squads, and 50 anti-kidnapping squads to the 16 local governments and 17 LCDAs in the state to ensure the adequate security of lives and property before, during, and after the Easter celebrations.

Meanwhile, the Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, urged Christians to set aside differences and leverage the country’s diversity to build a peaceful, united, and prosperous Plateau for all.

Similarly, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State called on Christians to embody the spirit of unity, love, and peace, emphasizing that these values are essential for promoting and strengthening harmony in the state.

In another development, the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) distributed food items to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in several local government areas of the state ahead of the Easter celebration.

The Acting Executive Secretary of SEMA, Sir James Iorpuu, who disclosed this during a briefing in Makurdi, said the food items included bags of rice, beans, garri, cartons of noodles, gallons of vegetable oil and red oil, as well as bags of sugar and salt.
