An early morning fire has gutted the Birnin Kebbi Central market destroying properties worth millions of naira.
The fire, it was learnt started around 12 am on Saturday and destroyed a large part of the market before it was put out.
Briefing newsmen at the scene, the chairman Birnin Kebbi Market Association, Alhaji Umar Danguna Gwandangwaji, said this was not the first time they had experienced such outbreak in the market.
He promised that an investigation would be carried out to know the cause of the inferno.
The Emir of Gwandu, Mohammadu Iliyasu Bashar, during a visit to the market expressed dismay over the incident.
He urged the affected people to take heart while assuring them of government support.
Also, the Chairman of Birnin Kebbi Local Government and the General Manager in-charge of the market, Mohammad Abubakar Ambursa, has assured the people that government would look into the fire incident and support the affected traders.
