E-call up begins at Lekki-Epe FTZ corridor August 1

To avert severe congestion by articulated trucks and improve the efficiency of logistics operations within the Lekki-Epe Free Trade Zone (FTZ) corridor, the Lagos State Government, has said that it will commence the e-call up system for managing truck movements in the axis from August 1, 2024.

Daily Trust reports that the e-call up uses an app called Eto, through which truckers are expected to book turns to access the ports following its introduction at the Apapa ports.

The system has become imperative on the Lekki-Epe corridor following increased truck and trailer movements after the kick-off of the Lekki Deep Seaport, the Dangote Petrochemical Refineries, among other commercial activities, on the Lekki FTZ corridor.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, stated that the move was driven by the urgent need to implement a sustainable, effective and technology-driven solution of trucks’ movements on the corridor.

He disclosed that the application of the e-call up system would help synchronise the movement of trucks accessing the Lekki Deep Seaport and other industries within the corridor, starting from Eleko Junction to Lekki FTZ, highlighting the state and federal governments’ plans on road network expansion and inter-modal transport systems to streamline vehicular traffic and enhance free movement in one of Lagos’ most critical economic zones.
