Dura Du styled killings playing out along Numan-Jalingo Road – Adamawa Muslim Council

The Adamawa state chapter of the Muslim Council has expressed concern over failure by police to effect any arrest despite continued killing of travellers along Numan-Jalingo Road by Baali militia.

The chairman of the council, Abubakar Sahabo Magaji, said a Dura Du style of killing had been going on in the villages dominated by Baali ethnic group where innocent travellers were freely attacked by armed men.

He said the latest mayhem was the beheading of four innocent travellers on a truck from Gombe on the 15th of October, saying four other persons were hospitalised while five were still missing.

He added that on the 2nd of October, a 42 year old man from Kano State was beheaded along with nine children and their remains taken to Kano for burial.

“The Muslim Council of Adamawa State wishes to draw the attention of the general public and the authorities concerned, that it seems another Dura Du of Plateau state is also being created along Numan-Jalingo road, where innocent travellers are waylaid and killed by armed Baali militia group”.

“This is a Federal Road, which is supposedly under rehabilitation. Unfortunately, these armed Baali militia group have taken over the place, attacking and killing innocent travellers at will despite numerous police and military check points.

“Up to this moment, no single person is arrested and prosecuted in connection with all these heinous crimes. These flagrant atrocities and lack of respect to humanity is totally unwarranted and condemnable as it only escalates mistrust and disunity among citizens and destabilizes peaceful coexistence in the state,” the council said.

He therefore called for the arrest of perpetrators who operated as vigilantes to terrorize innocent people on the high way.

The police spokesman, SP Othman Abubakar, had earlier confirmed the killing of five travellers on October 15, in Pasham village by local militia despite plea from the district head.
