The race to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games has begun with the organisers of the FIBA pre-Olympic qualifying tournament releasing the schedule.
The qualifying tournament is set to hold in Lagos, Nigeria from 14th -20th August 2023 at the Eko Hotel and Suites with a total of eight African countries including Nigeria hunting for the tickets.
The tournament will see Senegal, Mali, Uganda, Congo Democratic Republic, Cameroon, Guinea, Tunisia and the host nation Nigeria, competing for the opportunity to represent the continent at the upcoming Olympic Games.
According to the schedule, the teams have been divided into two groups of four each with the top two teams in each group proceeding to the semi-finals with the winner of the tournament qualifying for the Olympics Qualifying tournament as African representatives.
Host country Nigeria will take on another powerhouse Senegal in the opening game while Mali will take on Uganda on the same day in Group A.
Senegal, Mali, Uganda and Nigeria are in Group A while, DR Congo, Cameroon, Tunisia and Guinea are in Group B.
Meanwhile, 15 players led by Chimezie Metu of the Sacramento Kings have been invited by the NBBF to camp while Coach Ogor Odaudu will lead the Nigeria D’Tigers at the tournament.
