The Department State Services (DSS) in Anambra State has arrested five persons in connection with an alleged diversion of government funds through issuance of fake receipts at the Ogbaru market.
The Commissioner for Trade, Commerce, Market and Wealth Creation, Dr. Christian Madubuko, said the culprits, including some market leaders, were siphoning government funds into their personal pockets through issuance of counterfeit receipts to traders instead of government certified receipts.
Madubuko, who was accompanied by a team from the DSS, advised the general public to report anybody caught indulging in such act, stressing that the state government needed money for development of the state.
The President General of Ogbaru Main Market, Chief Victor Nwawuzie, however denied the allegation, saying the only fees he was authorised to collect were storage fees, development levy, legal tax and sanitation levy with issuance of government receipts.
