Malam Jamilu Ahmad, popularly known as Jamilu Maiguga, has been left devastated after a fire at his laundry shop where customers brought clothes for washing and ironing.
He said he is worried as the fire burnt over 400 sets of clothes belonging to his clients to ashes.
Most of the clothes are new, as the owners were preparing to celebrate the Eid-el-Fitr, he said.
One of the customers is said to have clothes worth over N2.5 million and is demanding to be paid.
Maiguga received a phone call around 4am on that fateful Wednesday notifying him of a fire outbreak in his laundry outlet located in Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State metropolis.
According to him, the fire was put out by good Samaritans who stayed near his laundry business place.
He said the incident was said to have happened around 2am, immediately after electricity supply was restored to the area, and that when he rushed to the scene, he found that the fire had damaged parts of the shop where he kept clothes.
“The fire engulfed a major part of the shop that was stacked with ironed clothes. That is why over 400 sets of clothes were destroyed. I have never witnessed this in my life. I don’t know what to tell people. One of them is saying a set of his clothes is more than N150,000 and there are many like that,” he lamented.
