The ward head of Giginyu, Malam Gambo Lawan has described early drug abuse detection in children as one of the effective measures to be adopted in addressing drug abuse among youths.
He spoke at a seminar and awareness campaign on drug abuse and its implications to communities organized by Giginyu Ward Youth Development Association (GWYDA) with support from Lead for Societal Protection Against Drug Abuse (LESPADA).
The ward head also tasked parents to be very vigilant on any behavioral change noticed in their children and address it accordingly.
“The fight against drug abuse should not be left to authorities or other concerned bodies to handle alone, it is apparent that the duty lies on all of us especially parents. Early detection of child behavioral changes should be addressed when noticed by parents and other relatives as a first step to tackled early drug addiction,” he said.
Similarly, the Executive Director LESPADA Maryam Hassan, called on all community members to be vigilant and report all suspected cases of drug dealers and drug related activities existing amidst their communities.
The executive director also commended the ward youth association for organizing such a very important event to sensitize the community members on the negative effects of drug abuse and the ways to address them.
One of the parents present at the occasion stated that Giginyu ward had been facing issues of drug abuse especially in areas like Badawa, Unguwar Gaya and Sango among others adding that time had come for each parent to be up and doing in the fight for a better tomorrow.
