Drug abuse is in every household – NDLEA boss

The Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), General Buba Marwa (Rtd), has said that the issue of drug abuse is in every household in Nigeria.

Marwa, who was speaking on Wednesday in Abaji at a symposium on community development in commemoration of the 25th anniversary on throne of the Ona of Abaji and Chairman, FCT Council of Chiefs, His Royal Majesty (HRM), Alhaji Adamu Baba Yunusa, also disclosed that some top government officials, political office holders and university lecturers were also into drugs.

Reps seek agency for almajiri, out-of-school-children

Represented by his Special Adviser, Mr Otunba Lanre Opinmisho, Marwa said the agency had under his leadership been able to tackle cases of drug abuse across the country.

Marwa said, “The problem we have with some of our parents is that we hardly create time to monitor our children. And that is why sometimes you will hear that a child killed his or parent, which can be attributed to drugs.”

Marwa, while congratulating the ona, appreciated him for always attending the agency’s annual conferences on drug control.
