Driver survives as 40-foot container falls on car in Lagos

A driver narrowly escaped death on Monday when a 40-foot loaded container fell on his Toyota Camry car, with registration number LSR 293 HJ, at Mile 2, en route Apapa in Lagos.

The incident prompted a swift response from a joint rescue team.

The Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Adebayo Taofiq, disclosed this in a statement shared via the agency’s official handle on X (formerly Twitter).

According to the statement, the coordinated efforts of LASTMA, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) led to the successful rescue of the driver, who was immediately taken to hospital for medical attention.

“In a distressing incident, a 40-foot loaded container fell onto a Toyota Camry at Mile 2, en route to Apapa. Through the swift and coordinated response of LASTMA, FRSC and LASEMA, the driver was rescued alive,” the statement said.

The statement further noted that officers from the Kirikiri Police Division ensured security during the operation, enabling emergency responders to work effectively.

He said following the rescue, the crushed Toyota Camry was removed, and efforts are ongoing to clear the fallen container.
