Driver rams into Ondo carnival procession, kills organiser

Tragedy struck in Ikare Akoko, Akoko North-East Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Tuesday, when an articulated vehicle rammed into a carnival organised by the youth, killing one person in the process.
Daily Trust gathered that the carnival, an annual event in the town, turned bloody when the youths attempted to protest the killing.
A source in the town disclosed that trouble started when the driver of the vehicle, a J5 bus transporting passengers from the north, rammed into the youths who were on procession on the street.
“The unfortunate incident happened when the youths from Olokelede in Ekan Ikare were on a procession to Okela where the accident happened.

“It was in the process that the driver of the J5 bus, who was coming from the north rammed into the procession of the youth, killing one person and injuring two others who are currently in the hospital with various degrees of injury,” he said.
Confirming the incident in a chat, one of the community leaders and Olokelede of Ekan Ikare, Olatunbosun Ayinde, blamed the driver of the vehicle for being impatient.
While sympathising with the families of the victims, Ayinde cautioned the youths to always organise themselves properly while celebrating any public event.
He urged them to always contact men of the Nigeria Police and Federal Road Safety Corps (NYSC) for security and traffic control.
The Unit Commander of the FRSC in Ikare, Ropo Alabi, told our reporter that those injured in the accident were rushed to the hospital, attributing the accident to over-speeding.
