It was gathered that Saliu was kidnapped on Monday evening at about 7pm in Jattu, his country home, in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.
The gunmen, numbering six, who reportedly laid ambush at his residence with two vehicles without number plates, started shooting sporadically on sighting the victim’s vehicle and in the process killed the driver.
The kidnapper reportedly abducted him after overpowering the security attached to him who were said to have sustained different degrees of injuries during the shoot out.
A source closed to the family said the kidnappers are yet to contact the family for ransom payment.
When contacted, the Edo State Police Command’s spokesman, DSP Bello Kongtons, confirmed the incident.
“The incident is true and police are already in the bush combing to ensure his rescue,” he said.
Source said one of the kidnappers was also killed but his colleagues took away the corpse.
The victim was last week Thursday elected Benin Deport chairman of IPMAN.
