A witness said the accident happened around 8pm when an unmarked Toyota Corolla lost control on top speed and plunged into a river, killing the driver on the spot and injuring three other occupants.
He said the driver, who was coming from Lokoja axis suddenly veered off the road after one of his vehicle’s tyres burst and fell into the river.
The witness added that fishermen, who got wind of the incident, immediately mobilised to the river and rescued three other occupants from the car.
He said the driver died on the spot while officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), rushed to the scene to take the rescued victims to the hospital.
When contacted, Yangoji unit commander of the FRSC, Austine Chukwudi Okeke, confirmed the accident and attributed it to over speeding and loss of control.
He also confirmed that the driver died on the spot and that his corpse and the three injured occupants were taken to Kwali General Hospital.
The unit commander further disclosed that three persons, including a commercial cyclist, were seriously injured in another accident that occurred Saturday afternoon near RCC junction, along Kwali-Lokoja road.
He said the accident happened around 2:15pm and that it involved un registered Jincheng motorcycle.
According to him, the cyclist, who was carrying two persons, loss control after a tyre burst.
He also attributed the accident to speed limit violation, saying the victims including the cyclist were taken to Kwali General Hospital for attention.
