Drama as senator who lost reelection ticket storms out of primaries venue

Senator Matthew Urhoghide, lawmaker representing Edo South Senatorial district, has lost the 2023 ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to Mathew Iduoriyekemwen.

The camps of Governor Godwin Obaseki and that of Chief Dan Orbih camp have been engulfed in crisis over the delegates’ list.

This led to parallel primaries for the House of Assembly and House of Representatives and Senate.

In Obaseki’s camp, Iduoriyekemwen, a former House of Assembly member, scored 113 votes to defeat Uroghide who pulled 103 votes.

Miffed over the development, Urhogide refused to speak to the speak with journalists and left the venue angrily.

In Edo Central Senatorial district, Clifford Ordia emerged candidate unopposed while in Edo North, Mrs Victoria Edelokun, also emerged unopposed.

But, in Chief Dan Orbih’s camp, Hon. Ogbeide-Ihama picked PDP ticket for Edo South. He scored 177 votes out of the 178 votes to pick the ticket.

In Edo Central, Mike Onolememe, a former minister, defeated Friday Itula to pick the ticket while in Edo North Pascal Ugbomeh emerged winner with 147 votes.

Responding, Iduoriyekemwen said said his victory is for all PDP members, appealing for them to come together and work for the party’s victory during the general election.

He appreciated his supporters and the party’s delegates, promising to work for the party.
