Drama as Kogi lawmakers postpone confirming ex-information commissioner

The Kogi State lawmakers at their plenary on Wednesday failed to confirm the former commissioner of Information, Evangelist Kingsley Fanwo as a Commissioner in the State.

Daily Trust learnt that the former commissioner got the shock of his life when the legislators in unison refused the request from the Speaker, Mathew Kalawole to allow him to take a bow and go after reading his profile.

Instead, the legislators accepted to go by the proclamation of the Speaker to allow him to re-appear for another legislative date for his screening.

The Speaker in his ruling said: “In view of lack of concurrence by members, the Commissioner-designate would have to re-appear for another legislative date.”

Daily Trust noted that the ex-Information commissioner left the House Assembly confused, shortly after his bid to be confirmed as a commissioner failed.

Evangelist Kingsley Fanwo in April 2022 resigned his appointment as the Commissioner for information in Kogi State to contest the All Progressive Congress, (APC) primary election for Yagba Federal Constituency but failed to clinch the party ticket to represent his constituency in the next year’s general election.

He lost the APC ticket to Folorunsho Olafemi, son of the former Acting Governor of Kogi State, Chief Clarence Olufemi

However, the Assembly confirmed the appointment of Dr Zakari Usman as Commissioner in the State.

Dr Usman who hailed from Dekina Local Government Area of the state was told to take a bow and go.

The new Commissioner is the current Chief Medical Director, Kogi State Hospital Management Board.
