Dr Dre battles illness, divorce, as burglars strike home

Dr Dre’s Los Angeles home was targeted by burglars while he was hospitalised for brain aneurysm, ABC7 has reported.

The group, who police said banged on fences and doors before breaking into homes, were unable to get inside Dr Dre’s home in  the Brentwood neighbourhood in the United States.

ABC7 also reported that police first believed the group had targeted Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris’s nearby home.

Dr Dre, Young and their children

Dr Dre is being treated at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles and posted on Insagram that he expects to be out of the hospital soon.

“Thanks to my family, friends and fans for their interest and well wishes. I’m doing great and getting excellent care from my medical team. I will be out of the hospital and back home soon. Shout out to all the great medical professionals at Cedars. One Love!!” he wrote.

The record executive and businessman has been in the hospital since Monday.

Ice Cube, Dre’s co-member in the rap group N.W.A., tweeted, “Send your love and prayers to the homie Dr Dre” on Tuesday evening.

Rapper LL Cool J also tweeted later in the evening, “Dre is recovering nicely.”

“Prayers up for Dr Dre and his family for healing & strength over his mind & body,” Missy Elliott added in her own message.

Earlier, Nicole Young, Dr Dre’s wife of 24 years, filed for divorce, The Hollywood Reporter reported.

Young, 50, who has been married to the producer, rapper and music mogul whose real name is Andre Young for 24 years, cited irreconcilable differences as the reason. She sought spousal support from the 55-year-old Dr Dre.

However, according to Pages Six, Dr Dre will pay his estranged wife $2 million in temporary spousal support.

According to legal documents obtained by The Blast, the money would be used to cover her living expenses such as her Malibu home.

The agreement also states that Young will be responsible for her own security fees for the next few months until they meet back in court. The judge ruled to continue the divorce until April to give Dr Dre time to recover.

Young first requested $2 million in spousal support and $5 million in legal fees in September in papers that describe Dre as a control freak who “forced” her to sign a pre-nup on their wedding day “under extreme duress.”

Dre then threatened to summon every guest who attended their 1996 wedding to prove she wasn’t coerced into signing the agreement.

The couple have two children, 23-year-old son Truice and 19-year-old daughter Truly. Dr Dre has four children from previous relationships.

They married in 1996. It was the first marriage for Dr Dre but Young was previously married to NBA player Sedale Threatt.
