The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Benin office, yesterday charged petroleum products retail outlets and depots operating in Edo State to embrace Downstream Remote Monitoring System (DRMS) in order to avoid management consequences by the Federal Government in the near future.
Speaking during the inauguration of its office in Benin, Ebi Ogionwo, Operations Controller, DPR Benin office said the DRMS project would help to track product levels across retail outlets and depots.
“DRMS project is designed by the department to ensure that petroleum products importation, loading, transportation, sales and distribution is adequately accounted for across the value chain”.
“The project is now at the implementation stage of the department. Compliance with DRMS is mandatory for anyone to remain in business,” he said.
“So, all petroleum products retail outlets and depot operating in Edo State should key into the DRMS”
Ogionwo cautioned those who still operate unlicensed facilities to immediately commence the process of licensing or risk the penalty charges.
On his part, representatives of major oil marketers, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) and liquefied petroleum gas marketers however noted that the office would help in the seamless documentation for operators in the sector.
