DPO shot in Benue while on arrest mission

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Otukpo, Benue State, SP Yahaya Pawa, was in the early hours of Tuesday shot by suspected criminals in a suburb of the town.

Daily Trust gathered that the DPO was on a mission to effect the arrest of suspected criminals in Otukpo-Icho community when the incident occurred.

It was also learnt that the suspects participated in looting items from the Otukpo Main Market when it was engulfed by fire last week and were allegedly selling off the stolen goods when the police arrived the scene.

The state’s police spokesperson, DSP Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident to journalists in Makurdi.

DSP Anene said, “It is true that Otukpo DPO was shot when he led a team of policemen on operation. He was shot in the arm, but he is in a stable condition.”
