Downpour destroys farms, livestock, houses in Jigawa

Hundreds of farmlands, farm produce, livestock and houses have been washed away following a downpour in Gumel Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

Daily Trust gathered yesterday that out of six villages affected by the disaster on Friday, there were Fulani settlements where the said livestock were affected and communities where farms under the newly introduced cluster farming system were destroyed by the flood which resulted from the downpour said to have lasted  for about three hours. 

Sorghum, millet, cowpea, watermelon and sesame were named as some of the farm items lost to the disaster in Garin Gambo, Gwari, Garin Galadima, Baikarya, Zuge and Garin Baki villages.

When this reporter contacted the Executive Secretary of Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency, Sani Yusuf Babura, he said assessment on the magnitude of the disaster was still on.
