Dora Akunyili`s daughter breaks art record in New York

Njideka Akunyili Crosby, the daughter of late Nigerian Minister of Information, Dora Akunyili broke record for the second time in a row as one of her artwork, “Drown” went for huge auction sale of  $1,092,500 rather than the expected sale of $200,000-$300,000 at the Sotheby’s Contemporary Art Evening Sale

The artwork “Drown” which had 11 bidders competing on it before was eventually sold to an anonymous buyer who bided via telephone.

The self-portrait “Drown”, illustrates intimacy between the artist with her husband, Justin and portrays the layers of her beautiful identity.

In less than two months, Akunyili`s artwork broke record with the previous auction record at $93,750 set by her “Untitled” work from 2011 at Sotheby’s New York in September 2016.
