The Director General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim has warned youth corps members to desist from travelling at night to avoid accidents or any crime attack on their way.
Daily Trust reports that two corps members were kidnapped last month at Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State while travelling for the NYSC orientation camp.
Speaking in Abuja at a press briefing to announce the activities of the 2021 batch C stream 2 orientation programme, he said the scheme was also working with security agencies to ensure that corps members remained safe and secured.
Ibrahim also disclosed of plan by the scheme to remit about N511 million naira to the federation account for the year 2021.

He said last year, the NYSC remitted 280 million naira to the federation account adding that the remittance was a contribution to the economy of the nation.

Ibrahim noted that the scheme rejigged the garment factory where Corps members are trained to sew and produce garments, the bakery and table water factory was also rejigged and produces products for the scheme and commercial purposes.
He said the the scheme also raises funds from the cultural through the corps members’ troupe when they perform at various functions.
On the resumption for the Batch C stream 2 camp activities, Ibrahim warned that no fake graduate should show up at the orientation camps as they would be figured out and punished.
He also warned that no graduate and prospective corps members should present a fake certificate in camp as it was an offence against the law.
Ibrahim noted that the resumption of the orientation camp has been staggered to run for several days in order to go in line with the Covid-19 protocols, stressing that all the necessary preparations to meet with the Covid-19 protocols have been put in place.
According to him, “all married pregnant and nursing mothers not deployed to their respective husbands’ places of domicile can now proceed to the NYSC Orientation Camps within their spouses’ States of residence for Orientation course. However, they are to present for registration, in addition to other relevant documents:
i. Evidence of marriage
ii. Identity of husband
iii. Evidence of husband’s place of domicile.”
