The pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the Ahman Pategi University, Patigi, Kwara State, Prof. Mahfouz Adedimeji, has advised students to see learning as a lifelong activity that transcends the four walls of the university.

Prof Adedimeji gave the advice while delivering a lecture titled, “Living is Learning, Learning is Leading” at the second graduation ceremony of the graduands of the Ahman Pategi College of Advanced Studies (APCAS) held on the campus recently.

The VC noted that there are many scholars and intellectuals who had died many years ago but are still alive through their works and in the hearts of people who benefited from their knowledge.

He equally maintained that many people are alive but dead in reality because they are of no use to themselves and society, adding that they are not missed when absent and not felt when present.

The don, according to a statement, therefore enjoined the graduands to see education and learning as endless, stressing that only schooling can be completed.

“While likening life to a university that one graduates from only at death, he charged them to be excellent in order to distinguish themselves in society stressing that those who know lead the rest.

“The Vice-Chancellor especially emphasised that readers are leaders and graduands should take their studies seriously in order to provide guidance to their peers and society at large.

“He added that with their graduation from the College, they were poised for higher educational and career opportunities in the various disciplines they had been trained in since the beginning of their programmes,” the statement read in part.

Prof. Adedimeji lauded the vision of the university’s founder, Hon. Aliyu Ahman-Pategi, which birthed the success of the graduands. He also appreciated the Board of Trustees of the institution and Governing Council led by Senator Isa Muhammed and Ambassador Nimota Akanbi respectively.

At the ceremony, which was attended by the Bursar, Dr Musibau Oladejo, the Dean of Humanities, Social and Management Sciences, Prof. John Olorunfemi; the Director of Academic Planning, Dr Abayomi Ayansola; among other senior academic and non-teaching staff, 36 graduands were presented with diploma certificates.
