A former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, has charged Nigerians to vote according to their conscience in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.
The elder statesman spoke, on Wednesday in Abuja, during the presentation of three books on insurgency and desperate migrations in the world, written by a veteran journalist and banker, Iliyasu Buhari Maijega.
He said, “I hope everybody will vote according to his/her conscience; I hope people will not sell their votes.”
He commended the author for his contribution to tackling the insurgency ravaging the country.
“The book will help in tackling the country’s current situation. For the last 10 years or so, we have been battling with the insurgency in the North East, which is gradually spreading all over the country,” he said.

On his part, Maijega said he was inspired to write the three books to address the security challenges confronting Nigeria and other fragile nations in the world.
Earlier, the book reviewer, Patrick Oguejiofor, said the books examined how the hydra-headed challenges have plunged many developing nations into recession, political and social upheavals, and proffered solutions.
In a separate development, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Dauda, has called on the youth in the state to shun any form of violence and not allow politicians to use them to disrupt peace in the state.
He stated this when he paid a visit to the Hotoro area Metro Division of the command in Kano.
He said as the 2023 general elections are fast approaching, the youth should become good ambassadors of the nation and support them in conducting peaceful elections and also provide good leadership in the country.
“Anybody that asked you to engage in any thuggery or violent act then asked him to also involve his children. If they didn’t do so, or their children refused to join you, then you should also not be involved in that violence,” the CP admonished.
