The paramount ruler of Tiv people worldwide, Tor Tiv, Prof James Ayatse, has appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, not to relocate the Zone 4 Police Headquarters from Benue State to neighbouring Nasarawa State.
Ayatse made the plea when he received the Assistant Inspector General of Police Zone 4, in charge of Nassarawa, Plateau and Benue states, AIG Jackson Jonah Mava, at his palace in Gboko.

He urged the IGP not to relocate the zonal command from Makurdi to Nassarawa State following varied wide speculations making the rounds in the state, adding that such plans could not be justified by politics.
The monarch expressed satisfaction over the AIG’s visit, commending the role of the police in helping to entrench the relative peace in the state and assured them of the support of the traditional institutions in the state in tackling crimes and criminality.
He also advised the IGP to always seek the input of traditional rulers in every recruitment exercise to enable them absorb fit and proper persons for the job.
Ayatse said the advice became necessary because of the attitude and character of many of the personnel in the force which leave one to worry.
The royal father said the role of traditional institution could not be downplayed in any society and must be carried along particularly during recruitment.
The AIG Zone 4, who extolled the leadership qualities of the Tor Tiv, called for more synergy between the traditional institution and the police in entrenching peace in the society.
The AIG assured him of police’s commitment towards a crime-free society and allayed the fears of the paramount ruler concerning the rumour of a planned move to relocate zonal command of the police to Nassarawa State.
He also promised the recruitment of Benue indigenes into the Police Force.
