The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Tanko Muhammad has advised Supreme Court justices against interacting with undesirable people in the society.
Justice Muhammad stated this yesterday during the inauguration of eight newly appointed justices of the Supreme Court at the court’s complex in Abuja.
Justice Muhammad charged the justices that as representatives of God on earth, they should do their work according to their conscience and the fear of God respecting their judicial oath as well as rules guiding the conduct of judicial officers and the Nigerian Constitution.
“You must not, therefore, allow your personal ambition or any extraneous considerations to becloud your sense of judgement. Your interactions with people of unenviable inclinations and pedigree, if any, must be halted forthwith.
“I have no doubt that you may have, at one time or the other, been confronted with some forms of criticism or verbal assaults by litigants who have lost their cases. I want to assure you that more of such cases will come your way, especially, as you now assume duties as the final court of the land, where applicants’ expectations are often very high and infectious,” he said.
The justices recently sworn in include: Justices Mohammed Lawal Garba, Helen Ogunwumiju, Abdu Aboki, Mohammed Musa Saulawa, Adamu Jauro, Samuel C. Oseji, Tijani Abubakar, Emmanuel Akomaye Agim.
The programme had in attendance governors and judicial officers.
