The North East Solidarity Forum (NESF) yesterday warned against moves to force the former national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prof. Rufai Alkali, out of the party.
Alkali was also a political adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan, and has remained a stalwart of the party.
Coordinator general of the forum, Usman Abdulkadir, in a statement yesterday said the forum had noticed the activities of some individuals, who were trying to disparage and tarnish the image of Prof. Alkali, in order to force him out of the party.
The forum said it had traced the plot to some individuals within the PDP, who did not mean well for the party.
“The states in the North East zone were supposed to select a candidate each to be presented to NEC for election, but these individuals, in order to exclude Prof. Alkali and other leaders in the zone, decided to sabotage the process which led to a lot of tension, anger and acrimony in the party.
“It was clear to us that it was a well scripted agenda, but to their utter disappointment, Prof. Alkali played along and despite their provocative actions, kept his cool without raising a finger or raising his voice over the whole matter.
“It did not therefore come to us as a surprise that during the composition of the four special committees approved by the NEC of PDP and the subsequent inauguration of the committees by the national chairman, Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff, on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, the names of Prof Rufai Alkali and some key political leaders in the North East Zone were excluded,” it  alleged.
