Don’t engage in local politics , DG NYSC tells corps members

Director-General of National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) Brig. Genl Shaibu Ibrahim has warned corps members deployed in Anambra State against engaging themselves in the local politics of their host communities.

The DG gave the warning on Wednesday during parade /closing ceremony of the 2021 Batch C stream 1 orientation course held at .Nnamdi Azikwe orientation camp Umuawulu /Mbaukwu Awka south local government of the state.

The DG who spoke through the state coordinator, Mrs. Yetunde Baderinwa, said despite that the scheme would love them to integrate with their host communities, “politics is a no-go area”.

“In keeping with the objective of the scheme , you are expected to integrate into your host communities , while also appreciating and respecting their culture. I must however , emphasis that engagement in their local politics is a no go area for you,” she said.

The DG commended the corps members for their participation in entrepreneurial and vocational trainings conducted in camp under NYSC skill acquisition and entrepreneurial development SAED programme.

“I encourage you to build on the skills acquired by availing yourselves of opportunity for post-camp training,” he said.

According to him, the training will go a long way in empowering them for self employment, noting that the scheme was liaising with financial institutions and stakeholders to provide startup loans for them.

He assured them that the scheme would continue to explore all available avenues for optimising the impact of the programme.

The DG also urged the corps member to be security conscious and steer clear of acts capable of putting them in harm’s way.

He appealed to them not to engage in night travelling , visitation of dangerous places, not accept car ride from unknown person.

He also assured them of the management commitment in protecting them where they are serving.

According to him, the scheme is liaising with the security operative in the state further adequate protection
