Managing Director of CyberDome Nigeria, Chioma Iwuagwu, has called on the Nigerian girl-child, especially those in the North, not to be discouraged by the recent activities of bandits in the region.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday in Abuja to commemorate this year’s International Women’s Day, Nwuagwu said older womenfolk should begin to the girl-child the need to demonstrate competence in whatever they do.

On the recent kidnap of some secondary school students in the North, the CyberDome Nigeria boss said the country had the responsibility to prepare young ones, including girl-child to take up a leadership role in the near future.

She said: “Unfortunately, we have gotten to a point in our country where the girl-child’s education is the main target.

“The question here is what narrative, what picture and messages are we trying to pass across?

“All we can say is security is a collective and holistic thing. So, besides the government, every unit in the society have to take ownership.

“It is a call to action for people in leadership so that the ugly trend we have witnessed in the past; from inequality to marginalisation and to victimisation, we have to really stand up and speak against them.”

Iwuagwu called on the Nigerian leaders at all level to seriously invest in training and building up the young ones and do everything possible to reverse some of the unfortunate trends against the girl-child.

“We must share our experiences with them and show them the challenges ahead.

“We must also make it deliberate to equip them with the right skills to prepare them for the challenges ahead… so that they can stand shoulder to shoulder with their men contemporaries.

“My advice to the girl-child is not to be afraid or discourage.

“These are little challenges for now but at the end of the day, we are going to look back and be proud that we actually rose to the challenge and beat our fears and make something out of it.”

She then appealed to stakeholders and the government to give the girl-child a chance by providing the platform for them to excel.
