Donor agencies centralise support for environment sector

The platform co-chaired by World Bank Country Director, Ms Marie Francoise Marie-Nelly and United Nations Development Programme Country Director Dr. Pa Lamin Beyai, said the aim of the coming together was to avoid duplications of support to the country.
Beyai said that the coming together of all development partners would ensure that areas that Nigeria needed support are clearly identified and the partner already working in that area.
“This will help in streamlining the support we are giving and we too will know who is doing what,” he added.
Earlier, the ministry had presented a catalogue of projects and programmes that it wanted the platform to support.
The projects include the design and construction of a green house to accommodate the entire ministry, hoisting of an interactive website for the ministry and the boosting of manpower to carry out effective revenue generation by the ministry in view of the fall of oil prices.
The Minister of Environment, Mrs Laurentia Mallam, who led other officials of the ministry to the meeting, said that “we want you to join hands with us, collaborate with us and help us to build a healthy Nigeria.’’
