‘Domestic violence wreaking havoc on Nigeria’s economy’

Some gender-based activists have lamented that continuous domestic violence against women is impacting negatively on the economy of the country.

They also called on the stakeholders in the country to rescue schoolgirls from a lot of victimisations they are experiencing as well as schoolboys who are facing issues of sodomisation.

Executive Director, Baobab for Women’s Human Rights, Bunmi Dipo-Salami, made the call in Abuja Friday during an interaction with journalists to commemorate the 16 days of activism against Gender-Based Violence and the International Human Rights Day 2021.

According to her, the case of sodomising boys was becoming rampant in the Northern region of the country, calling on men also to voice out if they face violence from their wives.

On her part, the FCT Coordinator of Baobab, Mrs Chinyere explained that it was expedient for all Nigerians to join the campaign against sex harassment and exploitation that is growing in our society.
