Doma United have secured another win at home after defeating floundering Akwa United 1-0 in match day 8 of the 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at the Pantami Stadium, Gombe yesterday.
The visitors had started the game with intensity but their early confidence was shot when the hosts scored in the 18th minute.
Nelson Abiam scored the only goal of the game at the near post off a low corner to condemn Akwa United to the third loss of the season.
The loss has further put coach Fatai Osho under pressure as the 2021 champions have only mustered a win in eight games this season so far.

Meanwhile, action continues today when surprise league leaders Lobi Stars will be eyeing a third straight win of the season after a comeback victory against Bayelsa United but need to overcome Sporting Lagos who have lost their last two away games.
Kano Pillars who despite their poor display away from home have remained undefeated at home will play host to Enyimba who will have to dim Pillars’ home dominance seeing that they last picked a point in Kano in 2018. Pillars are yet to lose any game at home this season, scoring five goals without conceding.
Shooting Stars will seek to make amends on their away records when they play Kwara United in Ilorin today as they are one of just four teams that are yet to score on the road this season.
Sunshine Stars will take on Enugu Rangers with both sides in Akure having had a total of eight draws in their previous games. The most recent victory for Sunshine Stars over Rangers was in 2021, with a score of 3-1 while Enugu Rangers’ last victory over Sunshine Stars in Akure was back in 2019.
In other games, Niger Tornadoes will trade tackles with Bendel Insurance while Remo Stars will attempt to build on their momentum against Gombe United while Plateau United have a date with Abia Warriors.
Rivers United will battle Katsina United while Heartland who are yet to pick up maximum points so far this season, placing them in the 20th position with four points in seven games will up against Bayelsa United in a rescheduled clash on the 15th of November. The game was rescheduled due to the governorship elections in the state.
