Doma United not yet dreaming of NPFL title – Onigbinde

The Technical Adviser of Doma United, Coach Akinade Onigbinde, has said although the ‘Savannah Tigers’ are topping the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table, they are not yet dreaming of the 2024 NPFL title.

Doma United in their second year in the NPFL have won five, drawn two and lost two out of nine matches played so far to occupy the top of the table with 17 points.

Although they have the same points as second and third-placed Lobi Stars and Shooting Stars, Doma United are leading the chart with a superior goal difference.

Speaking to Daily Trust Tuesday, the former FRSC FC Abuja coach said it was too early for anyone to link Doma United with the league title because there are still many matches ahead.

He said the target of the ‘Savannah Tigers’ is to finish among the top three clubs in the league.

“We are happy to be on the top of the table and we deserve to be there. However, it is too early to talk of the league title. This is just the first round. We have many more matches to play.

“Our proprietor has set the target of at least top three for us and for now that is what we are aiming at. But if at the end of the day, we are able to win the title that will be the ice on the cake.

“So, we are not putting unnecessary pressure on ourselves. We are taking one match at a time. We know other clubs, especially the more experienced ones, are plotting to dislodge us but let’s see how it goes,” he said.

Coach Onigbinde also said after the 1-0 victory over Plateau United, Doma United have shifted their attention to their next match against Remo Stars in Ikenne.
