Doma stun Gombe United 3-0 in north-east derby

In a one-way traffic situation, Doma United yesterday shocked their more illustrious city rivals, Gombe United 3-0 to earn the bragging rights in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Week 7 match at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe.

Although Gombe United hosted the tension-soaked north-east derby, it was the visitors who dominated proceedings from the start to finish.

After a barren first half, Emmanuel Ekpenyong opened the scoring for Doma United in the 51st minute before Emmanuel Jesam scored his brace in the 54th and 86th minute to seal the convincing win for the ‘Savannah Tigers’.

Despite the loss, Gombe United, having played seven matches, are in 10th position with 9 points while Doma United are 15th on the table with seven points and two outstanding matches.

Meanwhile, 3SC recorded the biggest win yesterday as they thrashed visiting Niger Tornadoes 4-1 to move to the second position on the table.

Ayabomi Adekune, Ayodeji Bamidele, Gbolagade Adelowo and Kareem Ayinde scored a goal each in the thrashing of the ‘Ikon Allah boys’ who have found themselves in relegation waters.

Elsewhere, Enugu Rangers stormed back to the top of the table after kazeem Ogunleye and Kenneth Igboke scored in the 3rd and 53rd minute to hand them a 2-0 win over Heartland FC in their ‘Oriental derby.’

Katsina United suffered the third defeat of the season in Umuahia where Dehinde Ibrahim scored a brace in the 11th and 21st minute to hand Abia Warriors the maximum points in a 2-1 victory. Lukeman Bello scored Katsina United’s consolation goal four minutes from full-time.

At the Aba Township Stadium, Mbaoma Chijioke scored the only goal of the match from the spot in first half added time for  Enyimba to squeeze past Kwara United while Rivers United fought back to draw 1-1 at home with Sunshine Stars.

In Uyo, Plateau United forced Akwa United to a 0-0 draw while Insurance inflicted a slim 1-0 defeat on Remo Stars at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.

Meanwhile, the remaining Week 7 matches will be played today as Sporting Lagos host Kano Pillars while Bayelsa United tread tackles with Lobi Stars in Yenagoa.
