A Kano State High court has granted the request of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje to amend his list of witnesses and claims as well as change counsels in the ongoing trial between him and Jaafar Jaafar, a journalist.
Ganduje had, through his counsels, filed the motion on November 10th last year.
He had sought an order to file additional witnesses as well as other front-loaded processes which were rejected by the defendant’s counsels.
At the resumed sitting on Monday, the Presiding judge, Justice Suleiman Baba Namalam, ruled that the plaintiff has the right to do so.
He said it is within Ganduje’s fundamental right, adding that there is no basis for the defendant to object the plaintiff since the principal counsel has not formally announced withdrawal from the matter.
Justice Na-Mallam later adjourned the matter till 20th April, 2021 for further mention.
Ganduje had dragged Jaafar, the publisher of Daily Nigerian, an online platform, to the court over a viral video which allegedly showed the governor stuffing his pockets with dollars said to be kickbacks from contractors in the state.
