The Speaker of House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has been elected as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Bogoro/Dass/Tafawa Balewa federal constituency in the 2019 general elections.
He was affirmed by the 325 delegates from the Bogoro, Dass and Tafawa Balewa local government areas.
Out of the delegates, 115 are from Tafawa Balewa, while Bogoro and Dass have 105 each.
The delegates unanimously affirmed the Speaker as the sole candidate of the party during the party’s primaries held in Zwall town of Tafawa Balewa Local Government of the state on Wednesday.
The PDP Returning Officer, Mrs Esther Ahmed-Kadala, who conducted the exercise, put a question to the respective delegates from the three local governments of Dogara’s constituency and they unanimously affirmed the speaker to be the candidate of the party to represent the constituency.
She therefore declared Dogara as the winner having been affirmed by the delegates.
Mrs Kadala informed that the PDP constitution provided that where there is a sole aspirant for any position, the delegates must affirm it.
She commended the delegates for their orderly conduct during the primary.
The Returning Officer also congratulated the Speaker for earning the confidence of his constituents and wished him success in the general elections.
