The Speaker, House of Representative Yakuba Dogara, recently celebrated his 50th birthday with events spread over a span of 2 days in Abuja.
The events included orphanage visits where relief materials were donated, a football match, church service and a book launch of Dele Momodu’s ‘Dogara: Reed Made Flint,’ a biography of the celebrant where a sum of over N300 million was raised for charity.
Those who were present at the event were billionaire Senate President Bukola Saraki and his wife Toyin, Former Deputy Governor of Plateau state Mrs. Pauline Tallen, Former Speakers Dimeji Bankole and Patricia Etteh, Femi Gbagamila and Dino Melaye. Also present were the children of President Muhammadu Buhari Halima and Yusuf Buhari, Aliko Dangote, who donated the sum of N100 million, Idahosa Okunbo, who donated N50 million, Emeka Offor donated the sum of N20 million and the Governors of Bauchi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Edo, and Borno states donated 10 million each. Popular PR expert and publisher of Maktoub Magazine, Mariam Mohammed was also present at the event.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha who represented President Muhammadu Buhari praised the celebrant for the special role he played in dousing the legislative and executive tension.
The celebrant thanked the donors and assured them that the money would be spent dutifully in charity work.
