A family source said the fire, which looked mysterious, started burning the wife and that in an effort to rescue her, the husband was severely burnt and they were rushed to UMTH, but that Dr Auta Gidado died in the early hours of Tuesday.

The source noted that the late Dr Auta was buried according to Islamic rights after a funeral prayer at the UMTH mosque.

The source further said, “Less than 24 hours after the death of her husband, we also lost Dr Amina Ahmad this morning (yesterday). We received the message at about 3am.”

While confirming the incident, the President of the Association of Resident Doctors in at the UMTH, Dr Abdullahi Usman, regretted the sudden death of the couple.

He said, “Yes, we lost both of them from a fire outbreak. As we speak, nobody can tell you the details, but what we were told is that the fire emanated from petrol.”

He added that, “I wish people will respect the dead. This is a sober moment for us as colleagues.”
