The police in Edo State have arrested a medical doctor, Abass Adebowale Adeyemi (36), for killing one Emmanuel Yobo Agbovinuere.

The suspect, who hails from Offa LGA of Kwara State, was alleged to have killed the victim on September 3, in Benin City and dumped his corpse at Otofure community on the Benin-Lagos highway.

The doctor, who graduated from the University of Ilorin (Unilorin) in 2013, was said to have met the late Agbovinuere (cab driver) sometime in July, 2022, at a hotel and engaged his services.

Parading the suspect, the command’s spokesman, SP Chidi Nwanbuzor, said Dr Adeyemi engaged Agbovinuere’s services to take him to a destination and thereafter they became friends.

He further said, “On September 3, the suspect came to Benin again and invited the victim to meet him at another hotel where he also engaged his services.”

Nwanbuzor explained that the suspect asked the victim to take him to some places, and that while doing so, the victim complained of a pain on his leg.

He said, “The suspect, who is a medical doctor, promised to help him and thereafter administered an injection into his body and the victim died instantly.

He further said, “To conceal the crime, the suspect kept the corpse in cab and later dumped it in a bush in Oluku and absconded with the vehicle.

“He was traced to Osogbo with the aid of a tracking device in the vehicle where he was arrested. A snippet, diazepam injection, scalp vein middle and five syringes were recovered from him.

He added that aside the vehicle, the police also recovered another car the suspect sold to a car dealer.

In an interview with journalists, the suspect pleaded with the family of the victim to forgive him, saying his action was not deliberate.

He told journalists, “Let the police do their investigation. I am pleading with the family to forgive me. I have killed a friend; he was really my friend. I can show you our discussions on phone.”
