The Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, Jose Graziano Da Silva, yesterday urged donor countries to do more to save Lake Chad Basin from food crisis. He also expressed worry that only USD10 million has been received out USD62 million requested under the 2017 Humanitarian response plan for Nigeria.

Da Silva, who stated this while briefing newsmen in Maiduguri, noted that the failure to intervene through agriculture meant that the humanitarian caseloads remain high through 2018. He, with his team, visited Dusman farms and paid courtesy call on the Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, and had series of discussions with Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh.
