Kanem Trust gathered that the woman had initially asked the Upper Sharia Court to nullify her marriage with Shetti Burabbe, but the court ruled that she must pay N160,000 to her husband as settlement in exchange for divorce letter.
Hauwa rejected the verdict on ground that the money was too much and therefore filed an appeal.
When the case was mentioned, counsel to the respondent, Barrister Musa Dala, prayed the court for an adjournment to enable him study the record of the ruling of the lower court. Appellant’s counsel, Barrister B.G Ali, did not object to the request and the presiding judge, Khadi Alhaji Abubakar, adjourned the case to May 25 for further hearing.
