The District Head of Miri, a suburb of Bauchi metropolis in Bauchi State, Malam Hussaini Abubakar, has pleaded with the Bauchi State Government to rehabilitate the Bayara General Hospital, particularly the wards for patients battling leprosy, tuberculosis, malaria and HIV/AIDs.

Malam Abubakar made the plea during a medical outreach and free screening of TB, HIV/AIDs to commemorate the World Tuberculosis Day organised by Breakthrough Action Nigeria in collaboration with the Bauchi State Agency for the Control HIV/AIDs, Tuberculosis and Malaria (BACATMA).

He said, “The Commissioner for Health; you may wish to look around the hospital and take an inventory of the dilapidated structures. We hope you will fix them in near time.”

In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of BACATMA, Dr Sani Muhammad Dambam, warned residents against the consumption of unprocessed cow milk, noting that many cases had been reported for the practice.

Dr Dambam said. “We noticed that TB is very common among the Fulani herders because they drink cow milk mostly unprocessed. Findings indicate that they mostly get the disease from cows.”
