Dismissed policeman arraigned for duping soldier, others over N1m

A dismissed police officer, Rabiu Chindo (39), has been arraigned in an area court in Kado, Abuja, for job racketeering and defrauding four people of money worth over N1,000,000.

According to the police First Information Report (FIR), the defendant in November, 2022, defrauded Sergeant Mamman Sule of the Nigerian Army (NA) of N400,000 on the pretense to give his brother a job with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC); that he also collected N420,000 from one Maryam Aliyu Musa; N55,000 from one Musa Umar; and N200,000 from one Surajo Abdullahi.

The prosecutor, DSP Stanley Nwafor, told the court that the offences contradicted Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

The defendant denied the charges and sought bail through oral application by his counsel.

The Judge, Muhammad Adamu Wakili, granted him administrative bail in the sum of N2,000,000 with one surety and adjourned to April 13.
