Disability Commission seeks salary increment for PWDs

The Executive Secretary of the Commission for Persons with Disabilities, James Lalu, has urged the Federal Government to increase the pay home of persons with disabilities to meet up with their daily needs.

Lalu, during a visit to the headquarters of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FBMN) in Abuja, noted that the challenges facing PWDs make them spend more on their needs, thus, they should be paid more than their able-bodied colleagues.

“The daily challenges encountered by Persons with Disabilities range from housing needs to transportation. There should not be similarities on salaries with people without disabilities as every legitimate income of the person with disability attracts additional cost to cater for his needs.”

Lalu noted the visit was to seek a common good for the PWD community, reiterating that the commission was established to solve their problems.

Managing Director, FMBN, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, outlined various housing schemes available at the bank and ways the commission could tap into it.

This, according to him, includes N1 million loans payable in maximum of 10 years and housing loans from N3 million upward payable over a period of 30 years depending on the grade level of the contributor.
